I tend to be a dreamer. And my dreams tend to give me a slight case of wanderlust. I have spent most of the ten years of my marriage dreaming of something else. But yesterday evening as I sat on my front lawn I realized that I no longer yearn for something other than what I have. As the sky turned golden and kids rode by on their bikes, I felt completely and positively happy with where I was. Who would have thought it would be in the 'burbs? I know that someday I might want something else but today I want exactly what I've got. A green lawn, a cul-de-sac, swing sets, a bazillion kiddos running around, neighbors on their porch, and all that lovely neighborhoods like mine afford. I just wanted to give a shout out for the suburbs. Because from where I'm standing - they're perfect.
I'm so happy. This has been my best year yet. I feel like we've been lead to a period of green pastures by hand of the Lord. I am so grateful for his wisdom and for his never-ending love. Future girl and I are one in the same right now.

Welcome to the neighborhood :)
OMG Megan! This is so how I feel lately. I see how my kid has blossomed and thrived in the past year we have lived in the burbs, how much less stressed out we are, how our garden is growing etc. When I see these things I can't help but say to myself "This wouldn't have been possible a year ago in the city. Thank goodness for the suburbs."
Isn't it amazing how our perspective changes? Whether it's where we're living, how close together (or far apart) our kids are in age, or what we want out of life.
looks like you have a great street with tons of kids - that is SO fun for your kids. they will have great memories growing up.
megan- you can make anything look good- those pictures! anywhere you bring your camera and your heart- there is true beauty, plain and simple. i'm so glad that you're feeling it and you posted it!
what an inspiring post. sometimes i feel like i'm blessed with that same wanderlust and cursed with the same big-dreaming, always-looking-elsewhere spirit. it is so good to see you happy and content where you are. mostly for your sake, but also a little bit for mine because it helps me realize that you CAN be a big dreamer with "someday" plans and impossible fantasies, and still be completely content where you are.
also...your photography is beautiful. it makes me nostalgic for something yet to happen. :)
You have such an eye for beautiful things! It doesn't hurt that your children are so beautiful, of course. Take that little guy on the trike--he makes me smile just looking at these! Love his little teeth and curly locks. Love sneaking on to your blog now and then.
